Dear Fletcher Elementary School Community,
It is with great pride and enthusiasm that I join your community as principal of Fletcher. I am deeply honored to lead a school with such persevering students, an extremely dedicated staff, and a supportive community. I look forward to working with the staff and community as a partner in education, facilitating the growth of our students.
My career in education spans over 30 years, working with students in UTK through 8th grade. I studied Spanish in college and had dreams of traveling the world. After some time in Spain and Costa Rica, I returned home and started teaching as a bilingual intern for San Diego Unified. I have worked as a classroom teacher at the elementary and middle levels and held various teacher leadership roles supporting students and teachers. I have spent the past 3 years as Associate Principal at Doyle Elementary and while I have always felt at home in the classroom, I have been most fulfilled in my position as a school administrator. As principal of Fletcher, I look forward to working collaboratively with the teachers and staff while remaining closely connected to students learning and growth in the classroom.
On a personal note, aside from my time away at college and living abroad, I have lived in San Diego my whole life. I have three amazing adult children who are my greatest joy. They have taught me that every child is uniquely different and raising them has given me a great appreciation for the connection between the school and families in supporting every child to reach their potential. In my free time, my husband and I enjoy walking our dogs, hiking, traveling, working in our garden, and cheering on our kids.
I believe that education is a life-long process and I look forward to learning about Fletcher and the Birdland community. Most importantly, I believe students are at the center of all school-related decisions and that one of the most important aspects of my job is building relationships with students, staff, and families. You will find me out front greeting students and families and in classrooms supporting instruction. My door is always open and I look forward to working collaboratively with each of you to ensure our students thrive both academically and personally.
Sincerely,
Michelle Radley
